 The National Laboratory for Poliomyelitis and Enteroviruses performs the following virological analyses:

1. poliovirus isolation in cell lines and identification of isolates from the patients suffering from acute flaccid paralysis

The analysis is done only at the request of the competent epidemiological services.

2. non-polio enterovirus isolation in cell lines and identification of isolates from the patients suffering from other diseases of possible enterovirus etiology

The analysis is done at the request of the competent epidemiological service or at the request of clinical physicians for hospitalized patients only.

3. Neutralization test for determining the presence of virus-neutralizing antibodies to Coxsackie viruses B1-B5 in the patient’s serum
